Every home needs design and decor to solve problems. Even if two structures are identical, no two houses are the same. The personalities of the owners will vary, and so will the look and feel of each home. The same goes for period architecture, such as a Tudor-style home. The only difference is that the challenges can be as exciting as they are difficult.

Modern Tudor Home Tour With Renovation Before & Afters

For this project, it was essential to tick all the boxes on the living room design checklist. More specifically, the designers had to:

Historic architecture with a contemporary design appealed the most to customers. They adore the high-quality wooden beams of a Tudor house, especially when combined with a modern or slightly eclectic interior. Their inspiring images have updated classic spaces, bright walls and color in fabrics. Overall, these living room designs feel great while also being inviting.

After the clients had filled in an initial questionnaire and stated the requirements, the designers could get to work. Fortunately, customers were thorough in their likes and dislikes. As a result, two designers were able to make preliminary proposals to adapt. Considering each concept, customers liked Theresa’s Tudor living room the most. Modern lines and dramatic accents suit her style best.

For the interior of the Tudor home, Theresa suggested a muted palette with a gray base and clay accents. Modern seating would balance traditional features such as patterns and iron railings. Her concept also has an eclectic twist with contemporary prints and a mix of design styles. The resulting space would certainly be an artistic mix of eras to match its charming surroundings.

Grand but casual, classic but contemporary – this Tudor-style interior is a happy mix of designs. For starters, Tudor Revival comes with striking structural features inspired by 16th-century architecture. As such, the interior design needed to celebrate elements but also soften them for a balanced aesthetic. And modern and comfortable furniture brings exactly what the room needs. It echoes the existing structural symmetry from the bookshelves to the fireplace surround and detailed arches.

Scale also plays a role in complementing the architecture. For example, luxurious pleated curtains dress tall windows, giving them a dramatic look. However, it is still very light due to its transparent fabric. In this way, it supports the spectacular scale of the room without it feeling heavy or too rich. The latter is crucial for a family with small children. In the end, the look is fresh and luxurious.

Details and layers give depth to the interior. Layered rugs, for one, bring comfort underfoot, but they also double as a platform of intrigue. A large sisal rug softens the elements in the room, while a traditional rug adds color and pattern. The combination is warm because it subtly enhances the dramatic atmosphere of the space. A trio of scatter cushions further enhances the layering effect.

Tudor Revival Architecture

The Tudor sitting room has lots of wood on the floor, ceiling and trim. It may seem heavy, but thanks to the cooler shades, the latest interior is refreshing. Two blue-grey sofas contrast the warm tones, while the mixed discs balance the space even more. A modern white marble coffee table is a sound choice because of its strong lines and neutral appearance. It also allows the stove to be the last function.

The design also includes accent chairs as seating for guests or a place to read something from nearby bookshelves. In front of the gallery balcony, a mud-colored wall makes a statement. It has bold contemporary prints on the arched balcony entrance.

Here, the Gothic-inspired balustrade mirrors the other medieval elements in the room to create a cohesive look. This update is also safe and practical for a family with small children.

With the latter in mind, the furniture has durable, high-quality materials. Throughout the living room, the lighting places every corner to emit a lively and warm light. The fixtures also match the atmosphere with their gothic motifs.

Often the evocative exterior of an old house draws us in, but the interior turns out to be less attractive. That’s what Katherine and John Breese discovered over time after they bought their dream home, a 1930s Tudor Revival in White Plains, New York, where they both grew up.

Looking to return to the area for Katherine’s work, they found themselves looking for a home with an easy commute to Manhattan, a diverse school system, a good yard, and lots of architectural interest. “We wanted a house with character,” says John.
