So I created a weekly plan for a technology lab for grades K-5. The plan includes everything you need to do the planning for you.
Computational Thinking For Students
This plan refers to an excerpt of all my resources to show how they can be used in one basic computer lab. They use multiple resources, not a single product or package.
All the resources to the left of the text have a clickable link in the image to the right that will take you to a page where you can purchase the activity if you want to use it with your students. The plan is free, but the activities are paid. You are welcome to use the plans to inspire your own design without using my resources.
This is week 1. All the resources I used are linked (if you want a clickable PDF version of quarters 1-4, sign up for my free resource library and look for the PDF in the TRY section).
In addition to not having to define what activities to complete each week, this lesson plan also gives an overview of how to weave in other major activities along with the core technology curriculum. This plan is designed for a 45-minute session once a week. About 85% of the students completed the main task during this time. I always remind them that if they finish the lesson early, they can come back and finish the lesson earlier.

As you can imagine, every year is a little different due to the school calendar and schedule. With these plans, I can move activities between weeks if needed. If a teacher at my school wants to collaborate for a few weeks on a collaborative project, I just sign up for the plan and move on.
The I can statement is the only one that can be used in the week’s lesson. I usually show several for each grade level so students can see the big picture of what they are learning. I wrote a blog post about Tech I Can statements here if you want to see it.
Warm-up activities are a mix of Tech-themed read-alouds (amazon affiliate link), tech-themed eBooks, lesson demos, whole-group interactive board games, review of previous concepts, and writing exercises for older students.
Key activities come from my resources, including several weeks of basic technology curriculum. With over 900 digital resources, this lesson plan collects all resources, not sets or bundles. I’m here to show you how it’s possible to mix and match everything. Feel free to use what you like and leave what doesn’t work for you. Each source is connected in the image on the right.
Add Coding To Your Elementary Curriculum
Early Finishers activities include great learning game sites, reading picture books from the classroom library, some offline printable technology activities, and completing the previous week’s work.
A backup plan is an offline option when technology doesn’t cooperate. I recommend many technical board games, robots, and printable activities that work well for situations like this. Backup plans do not cover the same standards as that week’s lessons, so if you must use them, be sure to rotate the planned lessons to meet those standards another time. Buy all backups here.
