South Texas Vocational Technical Institute’s Automotive Service Technology degree program prepares students for entry-level careers in the automotive service industry. The program covers both theory and practical skills. Students work by hand and with specialized tools to make a seamless transition to the workplace. The training consists of 402 lecture hours and 792 laboratory hours. Areas of study include engine repair and basic electrical, brakes, suspension and steering, heating, AC and related electrical systems, manual and automatic transmissions, and engine performance. Graduates will be prepared to apply for the EPA 609 A/C Technician certification recognized by Automotive Service Excellence. They may be eligible for entry-level employment in specialized or general automotive service positions. Morning sessions run Monday through Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Afternoon sessions are held Monday through Thursday from 1:00 PM to 6:00 PM and Friday from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM. Evening sessions run from Monday to Thursday from 18:00 to 23:00 and on Fridays from 18:00 to 22:00.
Tuition and registration for the program cost $24,708. Books, equipment and kit are included in the program tuition.
