Chip and Joanna Gaines have revolutionized Waco, Texas and built an amazing empire that includes Magnolia Market at the Silos, Magnolia Table, Little Shop on Bosque and more. I’ve already taken two trips to Waco – once solo and the second time with Candy because she wanted to experience it too.
Visiting The Magnolia Silos In Waco, Texas
It’s crazy to think that Waco has become such a tourist attraction. I’ve always associated Waco with a cult, the Branch Davidians, which had an infamous end. Now this place attracts tourists from all over the world and there are more tourists than the Alamo!
I’m guessing you already know who Chip and Joanna Gaines are if you’re on this page, but just in case you’re not, they’re a husband and wife team called Fixer Upper. It is a home design and renovation reality television series that aired on HGTV for 5 seasons from 2013 to 2018.
They took a few years off to focus on family. They returned in 2021 with Fixer Upper: Welcome Home on their Magnolia network and are still the same charming couple with the beautiful family that America loves.
In 2015, they opened Magnolia Market and started a food truck park with picnic tables, a garden store, a bakery and a lawn. In 2019 they added Magnolia Press, a beautiful coffee shop. In 2021, they took advantage of the pandemic shutdown to expand even more with six new retail stores, a remodeled chapel, Magnolia Home Store and a Wiffle ball field.
Shopping Magnolia Market In Waco, Tx
There are several hotels near Magnolia Market and I have stayed at La Quinta Inn Waco Downtown Baylor and Hotel Indigo Waco. Both hotels are excellent and less than a mile from the market.
I personally preferred Hotel Indigo over La Quinta Inn because it was closer to Magnolia Market. It is literally right on the road and only a 5 minute walk. The only thing is that I had to pay more for the pet fee, but it still wasn’t bad for the price.
You can also stay at Chip and Joanna’s vacation rentals, which they also built and designed. Their property is listed on Airbnb and is absolutely amazing. I wish I could stay in one of these houses, but they don’t allow dogs and are very expensive.
Also. Again, that would be great, but I don’t think any of them are pet friendly. I totally understand that they want to keep their designer homes as clean as possible.
Know Before You Go: Visiting Magnolia Market In Waco, Texas
Magnolia Market at the Silos is open Monday through Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. They are closed on Sundays, so be sure to take that into account if you’re planning a visit.
They are dog friendly so you can shop with your child. It was because I stopped here, I took my comatose shopping with me.
There is a dedicated pet assistance area with several dog waste stations where they provide waste bags. Dogs are welcome everywhere except artificial grass areas such as playing fields.
If you want to avoid the crowds, try to avoid Saturdays and go there right away when it opens at 9am. I was surprised how empty it was when I arrived at 9am. It was afternoon, of course there were more tourists around.
Guide To Visiting Magnolia Market In A Day
I visited on a weekday Wednesday and didn’t notice too many people even at the busiest time. It was still easy to walk the dog and find outdoor seating.
Chip and Joanna Gaines are Waco superstars. So much so that the Waco Convention and Visitors Bureau created the Magnolia Trail, a self-guided tour.
You can also take a Fixer Upper Tour of Waco where you can find a local guide to take you on a tour of some of the neighborhoods, homes, shops, landmarks and structures featured in the show.
Basically, you’ll want to check out these three things to get the full Magnolia experience, and it will take all day to explore:
The Castle Collection
If you’re a true Joe fan, you’ll have to stop by Magnolia Table. Joanna Gaines has her own cooking show and cookbook that is very popular and many fans stop by to enjoy Magnolia to the fullest.
I’ve watched a few of Joanna’s cooking shows on the Magnolia Network and all of her dishes look great. I was very excited to try their breakfast menu.
This restaurant is very popular, so I recommend making a reservation a week or more in advance. The website says they open at 6am, but the first slot available was at 8am. I guess you don’t need a reservation before 8:00 because it’s not that busy at those times.
When I arrived at 8am, guests were already lining up to sit at the host booth. I noted that I wanted a table by the window when I made the reservation, but that note didn’t go through because they were going to seat me in an area away from the window.
My Trip To Magnolia Market & Things To Know If You Visit
I asked if I could sit by the window when I requested it when booking and they were able to accommodate my request. There were still a few tables available so I didn’t think it would be a problem.
The decor of the restaurant is amazing as expected and I loved the tiles they used for the floor. Especially the area near the restroom that had “Waco Texas” written on the floor. The waitress told me that many customers take pictures around the restroom because of the “Meet me at the magnolia table” sign.
I ordered the lemon lavender donut hole and pancake breakfast which came with two eggs, homemade tater tots and peppered bacon.
For the pancakes, I had a choice of buttermilk, butter pecan + pumpkin butter, or gingerbread. I went with the classic buttermilk pancakes because the other two options seemed too sweet.
Magnolia’s Little Shop On Bosque
I was actually disappointed in the lemon lavender donut hole. These cakes are donut holes dipped in lemon lavender frosting and topped with lemon zest and sprinkled with freshly ground lavender. It looked weird but it came right out when I ordered it and it was fine. This means they prepare these things in advance and keep them in the fridge.
I thought these donut holes would come out fresh. I’ve never been to a restaurant that serves donut holes cold. It tasted good, but the freshness just wasn’t there.
The rest of my breakfast was pretty good. The eggs were fresh, the pancakes were fluffy, and the tater tots were unique, but I think my disappointment with the donut holes took away from my enthusiasm for the rest of the meal.
I should have ordered Joe’s Buttermilk Strawberry Butter Cookies. That’s what people seem to be interested in, but I just love donuts, so I went with a different option.
Spring At The Silos (+ Tips For Your Visit!)
There is no public parking at Magnolia Market, so you will have to find street parking. Street parking is free but I’m a bit surprised they don’t have dedicated parking as this place has over 100,000 visitors a month. Maybe they will build a car park in the future as there was a lot of construction going on when I visited in January 2022.
After all that, I found street parking without a problem; Especially when I was right when they opened at 9:00. If you go to Magnolia Market during their peak hours, it can be a little more difficult to find street parking.
Of course, you can also walk here if your hotel is nearby, but then you will have to go with all those shopping bags if you plan to shop.
I knew there would be a lot to explore, but it was bigger than I imagined. This place is amazing! No wonder people call it Disneyland
A Weekend In Magnolia House, Chip And Joanna Gaines’ ‘fixer Upper’ Vacation Home Near Waco
Fans It really is a magical place filled with the beautiful creations of Chip and Joe. Each store is uniquely designed and truly thought through.
This is the original store that opened in the Silos. It’s full of home decor, kitchenware, garden tools and clothing.
The store is updated each season to match the theme, curating a full range of products to reflect the colours, textures and beauty of each season.
I seriously want everything in this store. I wish I was closer to Vico because I would go there often to buy all the beautiful decorations.
