Home Source Furniture Reviews – It’s hard to believe that more than two years have passed since we bought the IKEA Perlov sofa and chair! During that time I received all sorts of questions about these pieces, including what I thought of the fabric, how I washed the cover, were they comfortable, etc. Why I decided to go for the Perlov line, things you need to know before buying, advantages and disadvantages, and everything in between!

By the way, this post is not sponsored in any way. I just remember looking online for IKEA Perlov reviews before we bought our set and found that there were very few reviews of the sofa and chair. So I’ll do my best to cover everything you want to know.

I actually thought about putting this post together a year ago, but I’ve learned a lot about these pieces since then, so I’m glad I waited. There are a few things to consider before purchasing this, so I hope this article answers all of your questions about this piece.

Sofas, chairs, loveseats, sofa beds and ottomans have been discontinued, although some stores still have various items of Farlov furniture and upholstery in stock.

I have not been able to find any information on whether or not the full Perlov collection will be back in stock. I know that IKEA sometimes brings back furniture collections with new names, so they may bring back the Parlov line under a different name.

If you have your heart set on a white sectional sofa and/or chair, here are some great alternatives to the Farlov sofa and chair:

First, why did I go with the Perlov line? Well, to be honest, I had a few other options and was close to ordering the same style from Pottery Barn. But the price of the Farlov sofa wins – $849 for the Farlov sofa compared to $2500+ for the Pottery Barn version.

While the Pottery Barn version has dozens of fabric options, as well as pillow size and configuration options, Parlov came pretty close to what I had in mind for our living room. And for expensive-looking sofas and chairs, without the designer price tag, these items are hard to beat!

It’s also really satisfying to decorate, because the white-coated furniture easily adapts to any season—and to the ever-changing rotation of pillows and rugs!

The main downside I had with this piece is the slip cover fabric. I would love it if IKEA offered a similar cover for the Grunlid section (now called Harlanda), which we also have (and love) and which is now the focal point of our family room in the basement.

The Grunlid / Harlanda cover is made of soft, 100% cotton that feels and looks expensive – almost like linen, while the Parlov white cover is more textured, as you can see in this photo:

Interestingly, Perlov’s white cover actually has some linen in it. The composition of the fabric is 59.5% cotton, 16.5% linen and 24% polyester.

People ask me if the cover is scratchy, but I don’t think it’s that scratchy. IKEA also offers the Farlove line in dark gray and dark green velvet, which looks quite soft.

From reading Perlov’s review on the IKEA website, I went into this purchase knowing that most people are not fans of the white cover fabric.

But I also know that I can buy replacement linen or cotton covers through companies like Bemz and Comfort Works, so I have the option to invest in replacement covers when I’m ready. But so far, Perlov’s wrapper is working for us.

Even if I finally decide to change our covers, I’ll still get a designer look for a fraction of the cost.

I love white upholstered furniture – we have white covers on our Pottery Barn chairs, our Grunlid/Harlanda pieces, and now on our IKEA sofa and chairs. So I’m no stranger to washing covers, and I really like them in white so I can eventually bleach them when they start to look wrinkled.

I wash the covers in hot/cold mode at high spin speed, using Tide liquid and a spoonful of Oxy Clean powder. The Oxy Clean helps keep slide covers bright white.

After washing, I put the covers right back, straight out of the washing machine, which ensures they are lightweight. (They take a few hours to dry enough to sit on.)

However, we live in a very dry climate and don’t have to worry about mold and mildew. If you live in a humid area, it is recommended to let the covers dry a little and reattach them when they are slightly damp.

When you put the damp cover back on, try to smooth it out and pull out the creases, especially in the corners of the skirt. Perlov sofas and chairs have velcro strips in several places that allow for a nice and tidy look, which I like.

While perlove covers are definitely less wrinkled than linen covers will be, they do come with some wrinkles that don’t want to relax on their own. I recommend steaming the covers with a portable steamer once they are on.

When we got our couch and chairs, I actually tried putting the covers on and it worked really well, so I didn’t bother getting the iron and ironing board out! But, as you can see below, the wrinkles relax (mostly) after a few months:

Since these pieces are for the living room and the fireplace room, where we spend every day, we want our new sofas and chairs to be very comfortable.

Firm when we got them, they have softened over time and are now very comfortable, though still firm.

I guess one of the benefits of firm seat cushions is that they don’t lose their loft like cushions do. No need to repeat!

My husband is tall, so we needed a couch and chair that could fit his height. Plus, I like to tuck my legs in when I sit, and with a very deep seat, this piece is perfect for us.

After 15 months and hours of use, these parts have held up well. When the new covers are washed, they still look exactly as they did when we got them. I highly recommend adding Oxy Clean when you wash the cover as it really keeps it sparkling white.

IKEA Parlov sofa and chair are relatively simple to build. However, my husband put these parts together, and he is very good at it. I think it took him about 3 hours to put the couch and two chairs together.

While he assembled the furniture, I read the instructions and opened the package. The pillow comes vacuum packed and is very thick. I suggest you leave them outside to expand for about 24 hours before putting them under the cover.

You might be tempted to start tucking the cushions into the cover right away, but if you do that it won’t expand all the way – which is what I think happened with our sofa chair cushions. (See my IKEA Parlov bench seat hack below.)

The pads that were left to expand overnight before sheath feeding were larger than the ones we sheathed after only an hour or two.

Therefore, once you receive your IKEA furniture, I recommend opening the pillow packaging and letting the pillow expand for 24 hours.

Because I didn’t allow our Perlov bench cushion to breathe for 24 hours before tucking it in the cover, it held the crease lines it had from being folded and vacuum packed—and you can see those crease lines through the cover. .

Maybe it didn’t bother others, but I couldn’t stop noticing it. You can see what I’m talking about in this picture:

After waiting about a year to see if the fold lines on the IKEA chair cushion would eventually relax, and finding out that they didn’t, I ordered a double size white foam mattress pad from Amazon to put between the chair cushion and the slipcover.

I made sure to order the thinnest mattress I could find because I wanted to make sure it would fit. Lo and behold, it worked!

I thought I might have to cut the foam to fit it, but since the Farlov bench seat is about the same size as the twin mattress, it fit perfectly.

It took two people to install it – my husband clamped the seat cover while I leveled and secured the foam top.
